You know what they say … you never get a second chance to make a good first impression. This is especially the case with dating. I know that going on a first date can be overwhelming, but you need to work hard to make your first few moments of that date count.
Research shows that it only takes 12 minutes for a person to decide if they are into you, so you need to bring your A-game from the second you arrive.
Make eye contact, smile and listen to what they say – and I mean really LISTEN. Don’t just sit there and think about what you are going to say next. If they are talking about something that interests them, ask specific questions about it.
Say they like rock climbing and are telling you some story about the last time they went. Do more than just say “uh huh” or “yeah”, actually engage them in a conversation about it. Ask them questions like how they got started and if they get scared up when they reach the top.
Speaking of that previous study – the one that says the first 12 minutes are everything.
The survey, carried out by the UK-based financial firm AXA, found that within minutes, you instantly notice crucial things that can make or break your attraction—like the amount of eye contact and smiling, tone of voice, body odor, and clothing choice
I know it should go without saying but you would be surprised how many people show up on a first date without looking their best.
- Take a shower
- Brush your teeth
- Wash your hair
- Use some deodorant
- Clean and paint your nails
- Wear clean clothes
When you meet for the first date, don’t start drilling the guy with 20 questions. Let the conversation glow naturally and always make an effort to look him in the eye when you speak. Avoiding eye contact may make him feel like you have something to hide.
A few things to avoid discussing ….
- Your ex
- His ex
- Your biological clock
You should also try and avoid talking about sex, even in a joking way. It’s your first date. If you bring it up to early it will make your date thing that you are only interested in sex.
And above all remember to smile!
It’s a first date and what will no doubt be many to come, so relax, enjoy yourself and take the time to get to know all about him.
